TEAM

Our strength is our team. Our people come from a variety of backgrounds. The marine staff has a long seafaring experience. On the technical side we have marine engineers, naval architects with years of experience.

A strong sense of service and attention to detail are the hallmark of our employees.   The staff is experienced and suitably qualified. The majority hold postgraduate studies (PhD, MSc, MEng) in the field of marine science and engineering.

Among them there are certified Pilots and Technicians for manned submersibles, ROV supervisors, pilots and technicians.

The team has high experience in underwater technical works and has participated in a wide number of scientific and technical projects.

Professional divers’ team cooperate with the company.

Spyros Volonakis, is the founder and managing director. He is a Commander (ret) Hellenic Navy, PhD Cand., MEng, Chartered Engineer (CEng), Chartered Marine Engineer (CMarEng).

He served in the Hellenic Navy for more than 20 years and most of his service was as a submariner (Submarine Officer, Executive Submarine Officer, and Commanding Submarine Officer). He also served in the Hellenic Submarine Command as Commander of Submarine Flotilla and Director of the Operations Directorate. He served as Director of the Special Staff of the Olympic Games Security Branch of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff. He retired of his own will in 2003.
He managed the department of Underwater Activities of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) from 2003 till 2009. He was responsible for the manned submersible THETIS, the Remote Operating Vehicles and the Divers Team. He undertook technical projects such as deep water salvage – recovery operations, search, localization, mapping and recovery of underwater antiquities – in cooperation with the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities of the Ministry of Culture, pipe and wire inspections and surveys, wreck inspections and surveys, video recording and underwater photography, study of deep water buoy anchorages, study of signalling sea areas with buoys according to the international signalling rules. He was Operations and Technical leader in 3 deep water salvage operations
He was the Manager of the European Regional Office of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.

   For his outstanding services and exceptional achievements he has been awarded the following decorations by the Hellenic State:

  1. Golden Cross of the Order of Honour.
  2. Golden Cross of the Order of Phoenix.
  3. Medal of Military Merit B' Class.
  4. Medal of Military Merit C' Class.
  5. Staff Officer Service Commendation Medal B' Class.
  6. Staff Officer Service Commendation Medal C' Class.

He has been awarded three honoured mentions by the Ministry of Development/HCMR for his technical achievements on the following projects:

  1. Recovery of a MIRAGE 2000 aircraft of the Hellenic Air Force from the depth of 560 m.
  2. Recovery of a CHINOOK helicopter of the Hellenic Army from the depth of the 875 m.
  3. Survey of the M/V “SEA DIAMOND” and recovery of the VDR from the depth of 135 m.
